Today FM comes to Drumlease National! Pictured- school Principal Marie Brennan, sixth class teacher Noel Taaffe and staff with Ray Foley and JP Gilbourne.
Ms Brennan continued that all funds raised are going towards the school that has recently been granted funding for three additional classroom extensions with school set to see the construction of a new mainstream classroom, a special education classroom and a special education tuition room.
Ms Brennan said: "We are in the process of land purchase and also funding for school development to future-proof so all funds that we raised are going back towards the school. We really were on a high and are still coming down from that. It was such a wonderful experience for all of our pupils."
Ray and JP arrived at around 11.30 am to get set up for the show, Ms Brennan told us. "It was fabulous to see the whole behind-the-scenes of the radio programme. They recorded live from the school hall where the market was from 2pm to 4.30pm. We also had Santa there and he was interviewed at the end. We had Santa's Grotto where all our children and the parents volunteered to help with hot chocolate and pancakes. We really had a massive community effort and everyone was helping out. Every child got a little present from Santa, all 152 pupils."
She said the well-known presenting duo spoke to the children and were even given a very special gift. "Then Ray and JP spoke to children at the different stands about what they were selling. One pupil had made a beautiful Today FM logo to give to them. It was fantastic and it was such a huge celebration for our school because these things don't happen too often! It was a huge honour."
