Default 80km/hour signage on roads where such speeds would be clearly dangerous have also been targeted in the overhaul of speed signage.

A number of narrow rural roads are currently covered by such signage despite the fact that it would be foolish to travel at such speeds.

The order to review the speed limits and the location of the signs displaying them is contained in a circular sent to every city and county manager by the Department of Transport.
