Residents of Co Leitrim braced themselves for severe storm conditions on Monday but were lucky enough to escape serious damage.
Met Eireann issued a weather alert over the weekend after it became clear that the depression caused by former hurricane Katia, was heading for the north west of the country.
Although gale force winds lashed Counties Donegal, Mayo, Sligo and Galway, Co Leitrim escaped more severe weather conditions with only a few reports of trees down across the county.
ESB were called on to deal with major power outages in Counties Cavan, Sligo, Donegal and Longford but no major issues were reported locally.
Due to the adverse weather conditions there was some disruption to eircom telephone and broadband services in the Leitrim area. A spokesperson for eircom said, “Customers in Leitrim have experienced a lower level of disruption than other areas of the country with less than 50 reported faults. Engineers have been assigned to carry out repairs and we will continue to monitor all service levels in the area.”
