Many tributes have been paid to Michael McGirl following his retirement as General Services Supervisor for South Leitrim at Leitrim County Council, bringing to a close more than 40 years of dedicated service.
“Heartiest congratulations to our colleague Michael McGirl, GSS, South Leitrim, who retired today following 42 years of excellent service, dedication to his job and service to his community,” read a Facebook post from Leitrim County Council.
Michael’s colleagues gathered with him and his family at Áras an Chontae in Carrick-on-Shannon on December 19 to mark the occasion, bid him a fond farewell and wish him every success and happiness in the years ahead.
Numerous tributes from colleagues and those who have worked with and known Michael have also been shared on social media, attracting more than 100 comments.

“Wishing you a well deserved happy and healthy retirement Michael! It was an absolute pleasure to work with you the last few years. You will be sorely missed in LCC!” one comment read.
“Happy retirement Michael. Wishing you many years of health and happiness. It was a pleasure working with you a few years ago,” said another.
“Congratulations Michael on your retirement, wishing you good health and happiness in the years ahead. You will be missed by us all,” read a further message.
Another tribute described Michael as a “gentleman” to deal with, while also wishing him many happy years of retirement and continued good health.
