Repeated flooding in North Leitrim is creating dangerous road conditions on a busy local route.
Flooding on the R280 at Drummans, Glenade, was raised at January’s meeting of the Manorhamilton Municipal District by Cllr James Gilmartin, who warned that the situation is “extremely dangerous for road users in both directions.”
The flooding occurs after periods of heavy rainfall, with excess surface water accumulating on the road.
In his motion, Cllr Gilmartin stated: “This flooding would appear to be caused by inadequate drainage capacity and leads to the accumulation of surface water, which regularly overtops the roadway. The situation presents a serious hazard to road users.”

The issue is occurring on the Bundoran-bound side of the road, towards Glenade Church.
Cllr Gilmartin asked that the Municipal District investigate the cause of the flooding and carry out appropriate drainage and remedial works as a matter of urgency.
In response, the Roads Department confirmed that it is envisaged the required drainage works will be completed in 2026, subject to funding.
