Tributes have been paid following the passing of Kevin Manix McAlister, remembered by many in Leitrim and beyond for his love of animals and his ‘kind-hearted’ nature.
Kevin passed away peacefully at his home in Leitrim Village on Sunday, January 4. He had previously lived in Langley, British Columbia, Canada, and had also resided in Kildare and Cork.
He was predeceased by his son Jed, his parents Christina and Sean, and his brother Finbarr. Kevin will be deeply missed by his loving wife Caroline, his daughter Elaine, his grandchildren Aoibhean, Finn and Fiadh, his siblings Maureen, Noreen, Cathal, Don and Brendan, his brother-in-law Dave, his nieces and nephews Steven, Sinead, Aisling, Jen, Katie, Jack, Oliver, Arthur, Harrison and Shay, and all his friends and neighbours.
Condolences on RIP.ie have reflected on Kevin’s life and the impact he had on those around him. “You knew immediately the kindness he possessed and the love he so willingly shared. His love of family, and especially his love for Caroline, was so pure. His love of animals and their welfare was a sure sign that he didn’t discriminate when it came to caring for all God’s creatures,” one tribute read.

“Kevin was a wonderful man and he loved you dearly. He was so kind, thoughtful and had such a great sense of humour,” said another.
Reflecting on his time in Leitrim Village, one person wrote, “We only met a few times in passing around the village, always the same conversation about how happy he was to be living here, settling in so well and agreeing it was such a lovely village to live in.”
A Requiem Mass for Kevin was held at St Joseph’s Church in Leitrim Village on January 8, followed by burial in Drumshanbo New Cemetery. The RIP.ie notice requested that donations in his memory be made to Leitrim Animal Welfare if desired.
“Kevin’s goodness and quiet strength will be remembered always, and his spirit will live on in the lives he touched. He was a man of compassion and patience, someone who made those around him feel understood and valued. His presence was steady and reassuring, and his kindness left an imprint that will not fade,” another condolence said.
