Drugs were recovered and a number of drivers were penalised following a major roads policing clampdown carried out by An Garda Síochána in the Sligo/Leitrim division.
The Sligo/Leitrim Roads Policing Unit took part in a national day of action on Wednesday, January 21, during which checkpoints and patrols were established across a number of national routes, including the N4, N16, N15 and N17.
Gardaí confirmed in a statement shared on social media that three drivers were arrested for drug driving, one driver was arrested for dangerous driving, and five vehicles were seized after being found uninsured or driven by learner permit holders who were unaccompanied by a full licence holder.
In addition, a quantity of drugs was recovered during the operation.

In a statement posted on Facebook, An Garda Síochána Sligo/Leitrim said, “Three drivers were detected drug driving. One driver was arrested for dangerous driving, five vehicles were seized for having no insurance or learner permit holders driving unaccompanied by a full license holder. A quantity of drugs was also recovered. Never drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
