Pedestrian crossing sought to tackle traffic speed in North Leitrim

The request was brought before the Manorhamilton Municipal District meeting

There was a call for a pedestrian crossing to be installed in Kinlough, at the recent meeting of Manorhamilton Municipal District.

Cllr Justin Warnock (FF) submitted a motion stating, “I will ask Active Travel Section to seek funding for a pedestrian crossing in the interest of road safety on the Mill Road in Kinlough."

Cllr Warnock was assured by a reply from the Roads Department of Leitrim County Council that the crossing is a priority.

“Funding for the 2026 Active Travel program has been sought and secured from the NTA. However, this request will be reviewed, assessed and funding for necessary works will be sought under the 2027 programme," the reply stated.

Speaking to the Leitrim Observer, Cllr Warnock stressed the importance of this pedestrain crossing.

“I have been bringing this matter to the council for the past six or seven years,” he explained.

“There are over 60 houses in this area, with many young families and children,” Cllr Warnock added.

The councillor added that the pedestrian crossing would be a traffic calming measure, as “speed is another issue” along this stretch of road.
