Dromod native Sharon McGowan is special advisor in Government
Dromod native Sharon McGowan has been profiled in The Irish Times as part of a feature on 19 Government special advisors.
Ms McGowan is a special advisor, focusing on communications.
The former journalist deputises on occasion for the Government Press Secretary, Paul Clarkson.
She also has responsibilities in the area of Foreign Affairs. She previously worked as a Department of Foreign Affairs press advisor to Taoiseach Micheal Martin, when he was Tánaiste.
It is reported by the Irish Times that she is on the Principal officer salary scale of €100,720 - €124,582.
Daughter of Micheál and Margaret McGowan, she comes from a well known Dromod family, with her father running a church supplies and funeral director business.
Michael is also the Local Notes Correspondent for the Leitrim Observer.
A past pupil of Marian College, Mohill, she graduated from DCU in 2014, with a degree in Journalism.
She previously worked for The Irish Daily Mail, Sunday Times and Irish Mirror as a journalist.
