Avoid leaving taps running as this doesn't prevent freezing and can make problems worse. For more tips see www.water.ie/winterproofing
Uisce Éireann is reminding households in Leitrim to take a few simple steps to protect their homes ahead of the cold snap this weekend, and help avoid a disrupted water supply and potentially expensive repairs.
A sudden drop in temperature can cause pipes to freeze and burst, especially following periods of heavy rainfall which may have left the ground unstable, or caused damage to pipework inside and outside the house.
By preparing now, homeowners can avoid unnecessary stress and damage during cold snaps.
Practical tips for households:
Margaret Attridge, Head of Water Operations at Uisce Éireann, said: “We know how upsetting and disruptive burst pipes can be for families and businesses. Taking just a few simple steps now can make all the difference during a cold snap. By insulating pipes, checking for small leaks and knowing where your stop valve is, you can really reduce the risk of damage in your home.”

“We would also encourage anyone who spots a leak on a public road to contact us so we can investigate and carry out any repairs needed as quickly as possible. Leaks can be reported directly to our customer care team at 1800 278 278 or via our website www.water.ie,” Margaret added.
