Speaking on Seanad Reform, Independent candidate, Bernie O'Hara said: “Political parties have been promising for years reform of the Seanad without any action.
“In many cases it has become the consolation prize for candidates who fail to be elected. It costs the taxpayer millions of Euros every year without providing much value to the people. In keeping with the vision of the brave men and women of 1916 who gave their lives that we would be free to decide our own destiny it would seem appropriate to honour them by reforming the Seanad in a way, that would represent and give a voice to all the people of the nation.
“The way to do this is to have it made up of representatives from all the national voluntary organisations throughout the country, who would be paid expenses.
“ This would save millions of Euros each year while at the same time providing a voice to every sector of the population,” she stressed.
