Leitrim’s Dromod Boxty has won the inaugural Family Business Award presented by the Small Firms Association (SFA) at a gala event in the RDS in Dublin which took place on March 6.

The National Small Business Awards 2026 celebrate the achievements of small businesses in Ireland and recognise the significant and vital contributions this sector makes to the Irish economy.

With the family business category making its debut at the awards, Dromod Boxty took home the top prize. In addition, six of the ten categories were won by Connacht-based companies, including the overall winner, Sligo-based Lawrence Engineering.

Dromod Boxty was founded in 1990 by Timmy Faughnan, and now his daughter Áine is leading the way for the company.

The company celebrated 35 years in business last year and has enjoyed a wide range of success and accolades, having won awards from Blas na hÉireann and the Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards for its products, including Boxty, Gluten Free Boxty, Potato Bread, Pancakes and Protein Pancakes.

A statement on Dromod Boxty’s social media addressing the SFA Family Business Award said, “Thank you to the Small Firms Association for this amazing award. It was an incredible night from start to end, and we are over the moon. It was an honour in itself to be nominated amongst all the outstanding business finalists in the Family Business and Food And Drink Categories. We are very grateful for this prestigious award.

“We know that none of this would be possible without our dedicated and talented team, the support of our local suppliers, enterprise office, friends and family. Most of all, to our valued and loyal Customers. Míle Buíochas,” the statement concluded.

“The Small Firms Association Small Business Awards honours the work, tenacity, courage and sacrifices that small business owners make, which are often forgotten,” said SFA Director, David Broderick.
