There was over €30m paid out in insurance claims for settlements in lawsuits against HSE last year in West and North West area it was revealed recently.
The figures were released after a question from Cllr Felim Gurn, on the topic, to the Regional Health Forum West and North West last month.
HSE West and North-West provides health and social care to Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, areas in the west of Cavan, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo.
The number of claims in 2024 came to 215 and €35,969,750. In 2024, the number of payments came to 193 and cost €30,138,800, coming to over €75m.

The State Claims Agency (SCA) said it it's response that the agency has a statutory remit to manage personal injury and third-party property damage claims on behalf of State authorities including the Health Service Executive (HSE).
This data covers both the Clinical Indemnity Scheme (CIS) and the General Indemnity Scheme (GIS) and excludes
claims recorded under other designated schemes.
