Warm condolences have been shared on RIP.ie following the passing of Sean Tornsey of Dromore, Dromahair on Saturday, March 28, surrounded by his loving family.

RIP: Tributes paid to Leitrim man remembered as ‘the most gentle and kind person’

Sadness has been felt across a Leitrim community following the passing of a man remembered as “a strong quiet gentleman.”

Sean Tornsey of Dromore, Dromahair passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, in his 97th year, in the wonderful care of the North West Hospice, Sligo, surrounded by his loving family.

He was predeceased by his parents Patrick and Bridget; his adored grandson Conor; brothers Josie and Mick; brother-in-law Liam; sisters-in-law Eileen and Mary; and nephew Kieron.

Sean will be fondly remembered by his loving wife Patricia; his children Mary (Alan), John (Angela), Josephine (Brian), Noel (Ann Marie), Kevin (Clodagh), Dolores (Hughie), Fergus (Jacinta) and Colm (Lisa); his much loved grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister-in-law Kathleen; as well as his nieces, nephews and cousins.

Condolences shared on RIP.ie have reflected the high regard in which Sean was held by all who knew him.

“He was a wonderful family man and a generous community volunteer whose deep faith guided him always,” wrote one mourner.

“A wonderful neighbour. A strong quiet gentleman. A pleasure to meet and chat,” recalled another.

“I have great childhood memories of Seán coming to our farm in Friarstown, nearly seventy years ago, on his trusty Massey Ferguson to do various bits of tractor work for my father. Always very exciting for us children. Sean was always very tolerant and kind to us. A gentleman then and always,” another person wrote.

Funeral Mass for Sean will take place on Tuesday, March 30 at 11:30am in St Mary’s Church in Killenummery, followed by burial in Carrowcrin cemetery.

“Sean, was a kind, gentle and likeable person, good humoured and a Gentleman,” another person remembered.

“It was my privilege to have known him and sought his advice, which was always solid and sound,” commented another.

“He was the most gentle and kind person. We all have cherished memories of him down the years. We will always remember him with fondness and gratitude,” read another tribute.
