“The Love Where You Live Awards' is coming back

Leitrim County Council and Leitrim Public Participation Network (PPN) are delighted to announce the launch of the Love Where You Live Awards 2026, celebrating the dedication, creativity, and community spirit that make County Leitrim a vibrant and connected place to live. The annual awards recognise the contributions of voluntary groups, residents, schools, and individuals who work tirelessly to improve local life.

Seven categories are open for entry this year: Green Community, Green Estate, Age Friendly Community, Social Inclusion, Community Achievement, the Primary Schools Competition and new for 2026, the Gen Z Impact Award.

The Gen Z Impact Award has been introduced to celebrate young people aged 13–23 who are making a positive difference in their communities. The award highlights initiative, leadership, kindness, and community action. Nominations are welcome from individuals themselves or from someone who admires their contribution.

Cllr. Paddy Farrell, Cathoirleach, Leitrim County Council has highlighted the importance of recognising community effort, noting, “The Love Where You Live Awards showcase the incredible commitment of people across Leitrim. I’m especially pleased to see the new Gen Z Impact Award, recognising the young people who are already making a real difference in their communities”.

All nominees in the community award categories will be invited to attend the Gala Awards Night at Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway, Leitrim Village in October, one of the highlights of Leitrim’s social calendar. Winners in each Municipal District will receive a €500 prize, with an additional €300 Highly Commended prize presented in each category.

How to Enter Nominations can be submitted online through the Leitrim County Council website or the Leitrim PPN website. Anyone requiring support or further information can email community@leitrimcoco.ie or call 071 9620005 ext. 855 / 157.

The closing date for community award entries is 18th May 2026, with judging scheduled for late June/early July.

Primary Schools Competition

All Primary schools in Leitrim have also been invited to take part in this year’s Climate Action–themed competition. Entries remain open until 24 April 2026, with judging in May and prizes awarded in June. Schools in each Municipal District will compete for a €500 prize, with €250 awarded to runner-up schools.
