Longford County Council is to be contacted by Leitrim County Council regarding the condition of a bridge on the border between the counties over the Rynn River.
Cllr Sean McGowan asked that the District Engineer put in place a programme of repairs to the parapet walls leading up to the bridge over the Rynn River at Johnston’s Bridge in Bornacoola, and to contact Longford County Council to carry out whatever repairs are necessary on the bridge and the parapet walls on their side of the river.
Cllr McGowan noted that it is a “lovely character bridge,” and asked if Longford is responsible for the parapet walls on the Leitrim side, citing that they are in “a very poor state.”
District Engineer Emma Donohoe confirmed that the entire bridge infrastructure belongs to Longford County Council. “We can contact them again and ask them to consider it to be included in their bridge rehabilitation programme,” she confirmed.
Cllr McGowan added that it has been a problem for a long time and said he would like to see “a bit of progress on it.”
