Over €3m for south Leitrim water mains is welcomed

Cllr Gary Prior said the project will "help provide a more sufficient and reliable water supply to Fenagh, Ballinamore and surrounding communities including Coraleehan Aughnasheelin Drumeilly and Aughawillan."
A South Leitrim councillor has welcomed the announcement that water main upgrade works are to commence in the Castlefore and Drumlitten areas between Fenagh and keshcarrigan, with the project seeing the replacement of 1.6km of ageing water mains with new and modern pipes.
This is in conjunction with ongoing works from Fenagh to Ardrum of 2.85km, giving a total of almost 4.5 km of new water mains pipe, and an investment of over €3m for the region.
Cllr Gary Prior said: "These important projects are part of a much wider plan to improve and strengthen the water supply network serving communities right across South Leitrim."
The works form part of Uisce Éireann’s ongoing investment in the water network across Leitrim and are being delivered to address a history of bursts on the route, improving resilience, and safeguarding supplies for local homes and businesses.
Cllr Prior continued: "When this latest section of pipe works is fully completed, it will allow pumps to be switched on to help provide a more sufficient and reliable water supply to Fenagh, Ballinamore and surrounding communities including Coraleehan Aughnasheelin Drumeilly and Aughawillan.
For many local families, farmers and businesses, a dependable water supply is absolutely vital, so it’s encouraging to see this investment continuing in our area.
I know roadworks and temporary traffic management can be frustrating at times, and I want to thank everyone for their patience and cooperation while these essential works are carried out."
He concluded: "At present, all works are expected to be completed by autumn of this year."
