Ramps to be installed in Drumkeerin village

Leitrim County Council is proposing the installation of two ramps in Drumkeerin as part of traffic calming works in the village.

The works will be carried out at the end of the Summer said District Engineer, Padraig MacShera at a recent municipal meeting where the plans were unveiled.

It is proposed to install speed ramps on the main road through the village just before the Dowra Road entrance and a second ramp will also be installed further out the Manorhamilton road.

Additional signage warning of the oncoming ramps will also be installed as part of the low cost safety scheme.

Road calming measures are already in place at the southern entrance to the village.

Cllr Fallon expressed concern that the distances between the proposed ramps will allow traffic to build up speed.

Cllr Mary Bohan said in general people did not like ramps but acknowledged they were an effective way to slow down traffic.

“I'd like to thank Padraig MacShera for his work on this. It is the best way to control speed at this location,” she added.
