Drivers criticised for speeding on N16 near Glenfarne GAA pitch

Leitrim County Council has criticised drivers for inappropriate behaviour near the entrance to the Glenfarne GAA pitch.

Cllr Sean McDermott raised concerns about safety at this location on the R281 road from Glenfarne to Kiltyclogher.

“This part of the road can be very dangerous at times, especially for children when they are entering and leaving the GAA pitch,” he noted at a recent Council meeting.

A spokesperson for the Council said an assessment has been carried out at this location adding the entrance to the GAA Park is located in a 60km/hr speed zones.

“Any excessive speed in this area is as a result of inappropriate driver behaviour and should be reported to the Gardaí,” noted the spokesperson.

However it is acknowledged that there is limited site distance available to those exiting the GAA Park due to trees along the road boundary.

“This matter should be addressed,” the Council spokesperson pointed out.
