Leitrim County Councillor, Gerry Kilrane, has thrown his hat into the ring for Fianna Fail confirming that he will be seeking nomination for the party ticket in the Roscommon/South Leitrim area at the convention on January 30.

Registration for the convention in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon, will be held at 2pm with the convention set to begin at 3pm.

The surprise retirement of sitting TD, Michael Finneran, has left the way open for a full scale contest for nomination. Co Leitrim's Cumann unanimously backed Gerry Kilrane as a candidate, but he still has to be ratified at the convention. To date Roscommon councillors, Eugene Murphy, Rachel Doherty, Orla Leyden, John Keogh and well known Fianna Fail activist, Ivan Connaughtan, have all expressed interest in running for the party.
