Leitrim VEC are still awaiting clarification on the closure of St Joseph’s Senior Traveller Training Centre in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Acting CEO, Martin Fallon told the members he sought advice on the VEC’s suggestion to transform the centre into a Youth Reach Centre. He has been advised that the Department of Education would probably not approve this idea. He said the IVEA are awaiting a response to their questions regarding a definite date for closure and the situation with current staff.
Mr Fallon said the closure could have “implications for the teacher allocation.”
Request fair number of PLCs
Acting CEO, Martin Fallon has written to the Department of Education requesting a “fair share of PLC places.”
Mr Fallon said he felt Leitrim is not getting it’s fair share and he is looking for an increase in places approved.
He said the Department are looking for information why all the PLC places (nine) were not filled last year. He said he has sent off an explanation regarding teacher transfers.
Two new Deputy Principals have been appointed in Leitrim VEC schools. Following interviews, Carmel O’Neill has been appointed as Deputy Principal in Drumshanbo VS and Ann Foley will take on the role in Lough Allen College. The VEC wished them both well in their new posts.
