The residents of Leitrim Village had to endure an evening of disturbance last Thursday, May 17 as scores of Leaving Cert students descended on the town for a pre-arranged ‘graduation’ party.

Vandalism took place with flowers pots being overturned and spilled onto footpaths and streets and young people were seen urinating against private buildings and causing noise and nuisance.

Witnesses told the paper that some of the students arrived in the village in a drunken state but that the majority of them behaved themselves. It is understood that people no longer in the education system were among those causing trouble.

Gardai were called to the scene and four Gardai dispersed the youngsters in the early hours of the morning.

Villagers were left to clean up the mess on Friday morning.
