Deputy Michael Colreavy, Sinn Féin TD for Sligo/North Leitrim has criticised Minister Leo Varadkar’s decision to leave out Sligo’s N4 road of the government’s plans to improve roads across the country.
Commenting on the issue, Deputy Colreavy said: “The stretch of the N4 at Cloonamahon has been described as possibly the most dangerous road in Ireland.
“There are twenty nine white crosses that stand silently along the road to remember the people who have been killed on this 11km stretch. This failure to act by Minister Varadkar shows that this government shows little regard for much needed infrastructures in the north-west. To ensure the safety of people who travel along this road and also to help invite investment into the area, I am calling on the Minister to reconsider his decision on the N4.
“The N16, Sligo to Blacklion, is also in much need of repair. Improvements on this road should be part of a wider cross-border initiative looking to improve transport between Sligo and Belfast.”
