Local Government TD, Frank Feighan, has said the establishment of the new Child and Family Support Agency next year will result in far-reaching reform of child protection and family support services.
“I welcome the recent approval by Cabinet of the drafting of legislation to establish the new Agency, as well as the publication by the Minister for Children, Frances Fitzgerald, of the Final Report of the Task Force on the Child and Family Support Agency,” he told the Leitrim Observer.
“The Roscommon child abuse is among a number of high profile cases that horrified us all and showed how the children involved were spectacularly failed by the system. These cases made it clear how incompetent decisions were made which utterly failed to protect and listen to these children.
“Against the backdrop of the absolute need to strengthen our procedures to protect children, I believe that the new Child and Family Support Agency, to be established in 2013, will revolutionise the way in which child and family supports are delivered in the State,” he said.
