The discovery of a 37-year-old man unresponsive in a holding cell while in custody last week, has been referred to the office of the Garda Ombudsman Commission as a matter of course.
The man had been arrested in Strokestown on Tuesday, November 27 after a pursuit following an alleged theft from a Carrick-on-Shannon business.
The man was arrested following the search of a house in Strokestown, Co Roscommon and brought to Carrick-on-Shannon Garda Station. He was later found unresponsive while in garda custody that evening.
Gardai contacted the ambulance services and he was removed for treatment in hospital.
He has since made a full recovery but the incident has been referred to the office of the Garda Ombudsman Commission under section 102 of the Garda Siochana Act 2005 as a matter of course.
