As part of the ceremony, President Higgins will present a copy of his speech to John Bredin of the Carrick-on-Shannon & District Historical Society who will place it in the time capsule being collated during 2013.
There is a full programme of events taking place throughout the afternoon and RTE 2fm’s Paddy McKenna from Drumshanbo will act as Master of Ceremonies for the occasion.
Following Sharon Shannon’s performance, local children will take part in a lantern ‘light-up’ followed by a spectacular fireworks display.
