Two men were arrested and questioned by gardaí in Carrick-on-Shannon earlier this week after they were found near a farm in the Mohill area in the early hours of Monday morning.
According to gardai the owner of the property discovered the two men behaving suspiciously.
It is believed that the men were on the look-out for high-value farm machinery. Gardaí apprehended the men a short time after the initial report and they were questioned at Carrick-on-Shannon garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Both were released without charge but a file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions on the matter.
Farm owners are being asked to ensure that all farm machinery is properly secured in locked sheds. Owners are also reminded not to leave any keys in farm vehicles and ensure that thieves have little access to sheds or other areas where machinery is stored.
Anyone who notices anything suspicious in their area should immediately contact gardaí.
