On Saturday, August 29, Drumstrand Community Partnership Company officially launched the “Embracing Change Programe”, a PEACE III Project, at the Lough Allen Centre, Drumshanbo.
The project aims to work with young adults from Leitrim to ensure that the peace building effort is sustained beyond the peace programme.
Sam Drake, Chairperson of Denmark Street Community Centre, Belfast who launched the project stated, “In communities right across Ireland young people play a vital part in everyday life and their contribution to driving peace and improving community relations cannot be overlooked, they are the future.
Providing young people with the opportunities to learn new skills that empower themselves to play a more active part in their local communities is an essential part of the peace and reconciliation process.”
Sean Wynne, Secretary of Drumstrand Community Partnershi,p said, “We realise that it will be challenging to have the time and space to plan activities that are both additional and maybe a bit different to the usual way of working with young adults, ultimately, the results may provide improved collaboration between all concerned”.
