Carrick-on-Shannon gardai were forced to call for reinforcements from other areas after a fight erupted on a hired bus returning from a stag in Bundoran.
The driver of the bus was forced to pull over on the bypass at Townparks, Carrick-on-Shannon in the early hours of Sunday morning last after a fight broke out between some of the passengers.
The altercation quickly escalated until nearly two thirds of the men on board were involved in the fight.
Carrick-on-Shannon gardai responded to a call for help but had to draft in units from surrounding areas in a bid to separate the combatants.
It took gardai a significant amount of time to bring those involved under control.
No one was arrested at the scene, but an innocent bystander passing the bus at the time of the fight was injured after a bottle thrown out of the bus, struck him on the head. He was brought to Sligo Regional Hospital for treatment but later released.
The Leitrim Observer understands that the bus had been booked under a false name through a Longford-based travel agent.
Those on board had been returning to Longford after celebrating a stag in Bundoran town.
Local gardai said that the bus was badly damaged during the course of the melee.
