It was the ballroom that launched thousands of relationships and now Glenfarne’s Rainbow is celebrating the launch of The Ballroom of Romance’s own Rainbow Experience on June 26 at 11am.
Country music star, Nathan Carter will be on hand along with showband stars Brian Coll and Big Tom at the much-loved venue for the occasion.
There will also be plenty of memorabilia to see from the history of this enduring dance hall as part of the initiative, the brainchild of the Glenfarne Development Trust.
Guests will be travelling from all over the north west for the occasion and a bus load of tourists are also expected to travel up from Kerry for the launch.
Local county councillor, Sean McDermott, said the Glenfarne Development Trust has put a lot of work into the project and the launch of the Ballroom of Romance Rainbow Experience is the next step in a long-term plan to attract more tourism to the area.
“This is a beautiful area and the Ballroom of Romance is a unique place with an amazing history. This Experience will help to bring back memories of the glory days of the Ballroom,” he points out.
The Experience is a trip back through time when the showband scene was just beginning right through to the present day. It includes DVD footage of the history of the Rainbow, exclusive and original showband memorabilia and a chance to dance on the famous floorboards.
Own a piece of history
In a unique fundraising drive, the first piece of the old floor from the renowned Ballroom of Romance has recently been sold online to help meet the costs of the restoration and extension at the Rainbow in Glenfarne - what a chance to own a piece of history!
