A convicted rapist who was tracked to Ballyconnell following his release from prison last week has now left the town.
Gardai have confirmed that Trevor Byrne who had been living in an apartment in the West Cavan town, which is close to the border, has moved on after being under 24/7 Garda watch.
There was much concern about the news which was revealed last Monday, March 31 and was shared on social media last week.
Cllr John Paul Feeley said, “The reality is that the problem has simply moved on to another community. Government must provide a framework for the protection of society from such convicts to monitor there movements and ensure they cannot continue what are the most disgusting criminal activities.” In 2005, Byrne was convicted of attacking a Filipino nurse and threatening to slash her throat.
In the 90s he received 15-years for the rape of an 18-year-old girl.
