Motorists travelling along the Drumshanbo/ Manorhamilton Road (R280) at Drumkeerin on Bank Holiday Monday had to deal with poor visibility due to a gorse fire.
AA Roadwatch was advising motorists to be careful. Drumshanbo fire service spent four hours extinguishing the fire which started in a newly planted forest.
Chief Fire officer Finian Joyce said they did not know how the fire started. He noted this is “high season” for gorse fires and appealed to landowners and the public to be vigilant and not to burn waste or vegetation.
