The all-Ireland Fleadh will take place in Sligo from August 10 -17 with over 350,000 people expected to visit Sligo over the 8 days. The event will see competitors travelling from all over the world, especially the US and Great Britain.
With this large influx of visitors there are not enough beds within Sligo city and county to accommodate everyone. It is estimated that there is a need for at least 20,000 beds per night over the duration of the Fleadh, with only approximately 10,000 available throughout the county.
The shortage of accommodation presents an opportunity for the people of Sligo and Leitrim to embrace the event and make a return from renting out rooms in their house or renting out a second home. They are seeking accommodation within a 50mile radius of Sligo. The Fleadh organisers are calling on everyone in the area to register any spare bedrooms they have so they can be used by visitors to the Festival. The Fleadh is compiling a listing of available accommodation which will be advertised extensively via the official Fleadh website and social media channels. Visitors will then be able to contact the owner directly and arrange a renting of the property for their stay.
Registration of accommodation for the Fleadh is easily done by completing a registration form on the Fleadh website – http://www.fleadhcheoil.ie/. Once complete The Fleadh Team will then contact you and arrange to inspect the accommodation. If suitable, the property will be entered on the register of available accommodation with the contact details. A non-refundable fee of €10 per bedroom is payable upon registration to cover the cost of inspection of the property and management of the online accommodation lists.
Bartley Gavin, Chairperson of the organising committee said, “To date there has been a very good response to the call for accommodation providers with over 300 properties already registered throughout Sligo city and county and in the adjoining counties of Leitrim, Mayo and Roscommon. However we still need more accommodation and expect that every bed within a 50 mile radius of Sligo will be booked for the event. We are encouraging people to register any spare accommodation with us, even if it is only one bedroom. This will be of great benefit to the Fleadh and demonstrate that Sligo can support and host large scale events of this nature”.
