Lough Rynn Estate will tomorrow (Thursday) celebrate the opening of the newly renovated Farnaught Lime Kiln, one of the finest restorations of industrial heritage in the region in recent years.
The kiln is the latest addition to Leitrim’s heritage tourism product portfolio.
Speaking ahead of the event, Frank Curran of Leitrim County Council said the the kiln has been brought back to its original state using local material and craftsmen.
He said: “This restoration pays homage to our Leitrim craftsmen of yester year.”
Mr Curran said the combined investment of €233,000 has supported the restoration of the kiln.
This includes the refurbishment of the kiln building using lime mortar, paving, landscaping and a host of interpretative presentations, new signage, access as well as coach and car parking.
