Trócaire has thanked Co Leitrim schools for raising over €108,000 to support its work over the past number of years and helping to change lives in some of the poorest places on earth in the process.
Jennifer Brennan, from Trócaire’s schools team said: “I would like to thank schools from Leitrim for so kindly and enthusiastically supporting our work with poor communities overseas over the past number of years.
“The creativity of the students, guidance of their teachers and support from their parents and families is hugely appreciated and has made a massive difference to the life-changing projects that Trócaire funds. In the past year alone, schools have baked, cycled, written poetry and even rapped, to support Trócaire’s work.”
Last year, Trócaire brought vital aid to approximately 2.4 million people in some of the poorest and most vulnerable communities in the world.
The organisation helped people to grow food and earn a living, provided emergency aid, supported human rights and promoted gender equality.
“One of the most inspiring parts of our work is meeting young people in schools who are learning about global justice issues and who care deeply about what is happening in the world around them,” said Ms Brennan.
“Trócaire is sincerely grateful to schools in Co Leitrim, for making these critically-needed projects possible.
“Leitrim students are making their mark on the world in a very positive way and should be proud of their efforts to build a more just and equal global community,” said Ms Brennan.
