School transport issues

Leitrim VEC have agreed to facilitate a subvention towards a bus route in the Drumkeerin area for Lough Allen College.

Leitrim VEC have agreed to facilitate a subvention towards a bus route in the Drumkeerin area for Lough Allen College.

The members heard that with cutbacks on the minimum numbers needed for buses and the high charges for students, smaller school routes are in danger of losing buses.

Acting CEO of Leitrim VEC, Martin Fallon said that in the Drumkeerin area parents want to fund a bus and the VEC will facilitate a subvention to alleviate the situation.

Cllr Martin Kenny asked about the situation with buses and schools opening. Schools now re-open in August but the public bus system does not return to full timetable until September. Mr Fallon said he heard no change on this process and schools will more than likely open with no bus transport to support it in August.
