THERE is a "new departure" in burglaries in Co Leitrim, according to Ballinamore Gardai who are investigating a number of large scale burglaries in the area.
A house in Glen Darra, Tully, Ballinamore was "ransacked" on Sunday night last, February 6. A large number of items were taken from the home including a large TV and other electronics. Gardai said the house was damaged and the property was entered through the patio door which was smashed.
Gardai told the Leitrim Observer a number of businesses have been targeted in the Ballinamore area recently including two petrol stations. It is also understood that homes in Carrgiallen have also been victim to the latest spate of burglaries which seem to be targeting electronics and large heavy items. A spokesperson for the Gardai said they have not investigated so many TV burglaries "since the 80s" and said it was a "new departure" for local crime.
