Cllr John Ward has renewed a call for post offices to provide chairs for elderly and disabled customers.
The Carrick Area councillor put forward a motion at a recent Council meeting calling for the Local Authority to contact An Post with a view to making provision for seating in post offices around the country.
Cllr Ward said he had since been contacted by the Irish Wheelchair Association and the Leitrim Association of People With Disabilities supporting his proposal.
He told the Leitrim Observer that he was very disappointed by the response form An Post so far which seemed to dismiss the proposal stating it would create problems by encouraging ‘loitering’ by able bodied people.
“The lines in post offices around the county are getting longer and this is due to the number of closures of smaller post offices. I have been contacted by a number of elderly people who say that they find it difficult to stand for long periods in queues and I think it is clear that seating is needed and should be provided by An Post,” he said.
