Cllr Sean McGowan has put forward a motion calling on the Council to establish the feasibility of the development of a new Centre in honour of the late John McGahern.
“The Centre could be both an Interpretative Centre and Workshop Space,” he said adding that Mohill would be an extremely relevant location for such as centre, given the well known author’s affinity with the town,” he said.
However, Cllr Caillian Ellis suggested that the McGahern family be contacted regarding the location of any such centre, noting that John McGahern had strong links to the Ballinamore/Fenagh area.
A spokesperson for the Council noted that arrangements would be made to seek funding for a feasibility study into such a centre, but he stressed this would not only look at the capital costs of setting up the centre, but the ongoing running costs as well.
