Leitrim County Council Cathaoirleach, Cllr Paddy O’Rourke told the Leitrim Observer that he is dismayed to learn the Central Bank has chosen an Italian credit checker, CRIF, to operate the central credit register.
The Irish Credit Bureau, who currently provide credit checking services, were amongst a number of unsuccessful tenderers.
“With the excellent facility at the former MBNA/Bank of America base in Carrick-on-Shannon, along with a work force who prior to the loss of their jobs last month who had experience of working in an extremely regulated financial service, one can only wonder why our Central Bank saw fit to award the contract to an Italian based agency rather than considering an Irish based service such as what we have here in Carrick-on-Shannon,” he told the Leitrim Observer earlier this week..
