North West MEP Jim Higgins is welcoming a new deal with EU member states on minimum common standards for NCT testing across the EU.
Under the agreement, proposals that would have seen trailers and caravans requiring separate number plates have been scrapped.
Proposed requirements for an NCT for tractors have also been abandoned, while separate testing for motorbikes will now not begin until at least 2022.
Higgins said the revision of the proposals is a sensible move.
