Approximately 60 lecturers at St Angela’s College in Sligo staged a one-day strike yesterday over issues arising from the facility’s merger with NUI Galway which is due to be completed at the end of this year.

Those protesting claim that management at the college have failed to engage with their union, the TUI, in relation to the merger with NUIG. The lecturers claim that as part of the merger, they would be re-titled as ‘University Teachers’ rather than lecturers and would be effectively demoted. Lecturers say they also fear for the future of certain courses at the college.
