Know Your Neighbour Weekend kicks off today with events taking place nationwide. The 7th year of the initiative, Macra na Feirme hopes that the events will help communities to reconnect. Groups and individuals across the country will get together this weekend, the 14th and 15th July, to hold community events and build their local support network.
Macra National President, Alan Jagoe, said, “The Know Your Neighbour Weekend slogan is “Don’t walk by, say hi” - a simple action that could open up doors. Reaching out to your neighbours over Know Your Neighbour Weekend is a chance to build relationships and enrich your life. It’s not too late to hold an event with your neighbours this weekend or in the coming weeks in the spirit of community.”
The initiative aims to bring neighbours together to socialise and have fun. Macra na Feirme is calling on people and groups in communities to hold a Know Your Neighbour event such as a coffee morning, a BBQ, a themed party or a field day. It is an opportunity for neighbours to get together in a fun and informal environment. Taking the time to build these relationships will ensure you have the support network you may rely on in the future.
