Leitrim County Council will not be reopening the Housing Adaptation Grant Schemes for applications this year. The schemes were closed to new applicants in March due to the level of commitments already in place for the Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability (HGD), Mobility Aids Grant (MAG) and Housing Aid for Older People Grant (HOP) .
It had been envisaged that the schemes would reopen in late 2012 so the Council could start to process applications to be funded from the 2013 allocation. However a spokesperson for the Council said “a grace period was allowed for applications to be submitted before the schemes closed in March and there was a very significant level of application activity during (this) period with the result that the level of commitments currently on hand significantly exceeds our 2012 allocation. In the circumstances..we will not be in a position to reopen the schemes until such time as we are notified of our 2013 allocation.” Provision has been made to deal with disability grant applications on emergency medical grounds.
