Leitrim County Council is monitoring a situation which lead to a leakage of sewage in Carrick-on-Shannon last week.
Reports of raw sewage flowing down the street from Upper Main St in Carrick-on-Shannon were reported to Leitrim County Council last week.
The council said “The matter was investigated as soon as it was reported.”
A blockage in the pipeline network was discovered and cleared at a “localised cross connection” on upper Main St.
“In the course of the investigations it was ascertained that there was a faulty connection to the network from a private premises. A notice has been served on the owner of the premises directing that specific action be taken to rectify the matter,” said the council spokesperson. The council said the “Property owner is currently addressing the issue.”
The situation is being monitored by the council to ensure compliance and the protection of public health.
