The railway to Sligo will be 150 years old this December.

To celebrate Iarnród Eireann is offering a special celebratory fare of €1.50 each way on selected services on Saturday, December 1. Just 50 tickets have been made available for Saturday, December 1 on the 7am, 9am and 11am Sligo-Connolly route and the 4pm, 5.05pm and 7.05pm Connolly-Sligo services.

As of Tuesday evening, the service from Dublin Connolly to Carrick-on-Shannon and Dromod stations at 16.00 on December 1 are being offered at the special price of just €1.50 single ticket.

Events will take place in Sligo and Boyle to make the milestone this Saturday, December 1.

Following the determinations by the National Transport Authority, Iarnród Éireann will implement fare increases from 1st December 2012, with the exception of monthly season tickets which will be implemented from 1st January 2013.

On average, single, return and season tickets for adults, children and students will increase by an average of 3% for Intercity and long-distance commuter journeys (41km and above). Bus Eireann will also increase it’s fares on December 1.
