Cllr Caillian Ellis has told the Leitrim Observer that he is delighted with the news that the long-awaited Ballinamore hospital has been given the green light by the HSE.
The news came following a question posed at the recent HSE West meeting on behalf of Cllr Ellis by Cllr Sean McGowan.
Work is due to commence on the new €6m Community Hospital on February 4, 2013.
The project is due to take 12 months to construct with a further two months commissioning before it is opened to the public. Cllr Ellis welcomed the news saying he had been campaigning for the hospital for the past 13 years.
“It is more than welcome news for the people of the area. It is a long time going on but I doubt that it would have become a reality at all if it had not been for the groundwork done by the former Government and its Minister and the former local Oireachtas members,” he told the Leitrim Observer.
Having this and the new school starting construction is a huge development for Ballinamore and I look forward to seeing both open in the near future.”
