The Mayor of County Roscommon, Tom Crosby has welcomed the decision last week by An Bord Pleanala to give the go ahead to the New Civic Offices for County Roscommon.
Cllr Crosby stated the new Civic Offices “are essential as the present facility the Courthouse which was built in the early 1800s for the Court Service.”
He said, “this protected building is not wheelchair accessible or suitable for the elderly with a number of steps to the front and throughout the internal of the building and no lift facilities within the building.”
The new purpose built Headquarters will have all council staff and departments under one roof and will include over 300 extra public car parking spaces. The construction is estimated to cost around €18 million.
The tender process will commence right away and work should commence later this year with a completion date set for 2015.
