Cllr Finola Armstrong-McGuire has welcomed the announcement of a government grant of €10,000 towards upgrading the playground in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Dr James Reilly TD, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs announced on Thursday last that he has sanctioned payments of €250,000 for children’s play and recreation projects across Ireland.
Twenty-one Local Authorities will benefit from funding for projects under the Capital Grant Scheme for Play and Recreation for new and innovative play and recreation projects and the improvement of existing facilities.
Councillor Armstrong-McGuire has high hopes for the improved facility.
“I anticipate that the improved play space will act as a community space, encouraging all ages to share the space; and provide accessible playground equipment that will allow more children with disabilities to use and enjoy the local playground, alongside their friends and families.”
I congratulate Leitrim County Council personnel who made the application for funding and were successful in meeting all criteria required to achieve this significant amount.
“New and most welcome additional criteria was introduced this year, which stipulates that No Smoking signage will be displayed in play spaces and facilities funded under this scheme.”
Cllr Armstron-McGuire continued: “A specific play area in our towns and villages is most important in development of children and is a space where many life skills are learned. The upgrade at Carricks facility at Aura is most welcome.”
