Independent TD for Roscommon/South Leitrim, Michael Fitzmaurice, has welcomed the news that lead pipes are to be replaced in Elphin under an Water Conservation Project.
Deputy Fitzmaurice said that he had received a notice from Irish Water confirming that “In relation to Elphin, 56 properties were identified with Lead pipes, 28 of these are to be replaced under the Water Conservation project currently underway within Elphin. The other 28 will be replaced by Roscommon County Council. It is expected that these works will be completed within 12 weeks”.
The Roscommon/South Leitrim Deputy was also told that lead in the North East Scheme will be dealt with under a national Lead Strategy currently being developed by Irish Water in conjunction with the HSE and the EPA.
